Meet Karin Carmack
Karin Carmack, Candidate for Powhatan Board of Supervisors
Karin has deep roots in Powhatan County. Over thirty years ago, her father Bill Moslow, founded Moslow Wood Products, which is a local family business that continues to employ many Powhatan residents. From her father, Karin learned the importance of hard work and the transformative effect businesses can have on a community and those who live there. Her mother, Connie Moslow, is a long time Powhatan County volunteer and activist. Connie founded and currently serves as the Executive Director of The Free Clinic of Powhatan. From her mother, Karin learned the importance of giving back to the community, helping those less fortunate, and taking the initiative to solve problems rather than waiting on others.
Karin took these lessons to heart and actively sought ways to make Powhatan an even better place to live and work. Karin was concerned about what appeared to be “unplanned growth” that threatened Powhatan’s rural character, something we all hold dear. Consequently, she decided to take action and for the past twelve years Karin has served on the Powhatan County Planning Commission. During this time, she quickly earned the respect of her colleagues and has served as the Commission Chair for the past 10 years. Additionally, she has served on the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, and the Transportation Planning Organization, as well as regularly lectures for the Citizen’s Planning and Education Association, which is tasked with training newly appointed planning commissioners from around the State. For the past twelve years, Karin has fought hard to bring both quality and well-planned development to Powhatan.
The Planning Commission acts as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on all planning and development issues but ultimately the Board of Supervisors are the decision makers. Karin feels prepared to take her twelve years of experience as a Planning Commissioner and local business owner and assume a more effective role in the decision-making process as a member of the Board. Karin is running as an Independent because she will represent the constituents in District 5 – fairly, objectively, and have the freedom to work with all citizens equally.
In addition to serving on the Planning Commission, Karin has also served on the Powhatan YMCA Board of Directors and is an active supporter of The Free Clinic of Powhatan. Karin, a Virginia Tech graduate, is also a graduate from Leadership Metro Richmond and the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Karin and her brothers now run Moslow Wood Products a multi-million-dollar business which has grown into one of the largest employers in Powhatan.
Karin, along with her husband and their three children live on a hobby farm and enjoy the rural lifestyle that Powhatan offers. Two of her children attend Powhatan County Public Schools where she volunteers in the mentor program at the High School. In her spare time, Karin enjoys the outdoors, travel, and maintaining an active physically fit lifestyle. Karin is a certified personal trainer and is a certified integrative nutritionist.

“Over the past 7 years on the Planning Commission I have worked closely with Karin Carmack – she was the Chair over that period. I have seen, up close, her dedication to sensible solutions for our County’s problems and future, her ability to foster open and productive discussions during our meetings, and most important, make sure that the Planning Commission brought the discussion to a conclusion. The County is better off as a result of her leadership and she will make an excellent Supervisor.”
